College Coach, Dentist and Agent Open Offices in Hazlet

Three professionals have joined the Hazlet business community in recent days. Each said they chose 07730 for its convenient location for clients.

Laura Ciccone loves to help young people find their way. Over the years at her job as a certified public accountant, she realized she found a lot of joy and satisfaction helping college interns transition into careers.

So when she learned about an opportunity to start her own college coaching business with a Class 101 franchise, she was intrigued. Working closely with a student through the high school years to help them identify their best college fit, meet application deadlines, write meaningful essays, succeed on standardized tests and pick the right classes in college appeals to her highly organized personality.

“I really see myself as an extension of the high school guidance counselors,” said Ciccone, in her brand new, sunny space at 1731 Union Ave. where she meets students for hourlong sessions every few weeks and hosts small test prep classes. “They do not have time for the one-on-one.”

Ciccone, originally from Staten Island, moved with her two daughters to Lincroft last year. After offering a college planning workshop for parents in June at Class 101, she started working with her first students in July. A 6-week SAT prep course starts Aug. 20. In the planning stages is a September Open House event with a 40 percent discount to sign up for the four-year program. In October, there will be a FAFSA/CSS Profile workshop for parents.

Ciccone is looking forward to offering a monthly workshop for families navigating the college process for the first time. “I’m very focused on educating the community on what needs to be done,” she said.

One Stop Dental

One of the reasons Bindu Sachdeva decided to call her new general dentistry practice One Stop Dental is because she wants to help families save time.

“From infants to grandparents, it’s one stop. You don’t have

to go to another dentist,” she said. “I’ll take care of everyone.”

Sachdeva, 45, of Edison has just opened her new dental office at 875 Poole Ave, at the former site of dentist Arlene Montalbo’s Dental Concepts.  It is the brown brick building across from the Poole Ave. entrance to Hazlet Plaza shopping center.

A ribbon-cutting is planned for Wednesday, Aug. 21 at 6:30 p.m.

It is her second office, after the original in Plainfield she started three and a half years ago.

Sachdeva earned her dentistry degree in India but once in the U.S. earned another at NYU’s College of Dentistry in 2005. Two years of residency in a level one trauma center at the Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx was followed by eight years working with other dentist in their practices before she struck out on her own.

She is the mother of a college student who will likely also become a dentist, and a middle schooler exploring other medical fields.

As of now, the office is open every Monday, Thursday and alternate Saturdays. She is looking to increase the hours.  She employs another dentist who places implants in the office and is offering a 30 percent discount on the service until Nov. 30.

She accepts most insurance as well as NJ Family Care. Free screenings are available for all EMS, police and school teachers. A grand opening special for exams, X-rays, bleaching and cleaning is offered at $450.

Allstate Financial Services

Scott Wojie is taking his 25-year New York City career in financial

services and starting a new venture closer to home, in Hazlet, with Allstate Financial

Services.

Wojie, 50, of Holmdel is opening an office at 2889 Route 35 North, in the strip mall currently housing the Fuku Japanese restaurant and White Wolf Tattoo. The Empowered Learning center has moved out.

“Insurance is part of what I was involved in, but this move is more to build a business for myself,” he said. Wojie likes the idea of being associated with a big brand name, but also the entrepreneurial aspect of starting up his own agency. He has hired three associates, and is advertising for a licensed sales professional next.

He said he likes the location of the new office, which is currently being built out. As the father of three kids, it helps it’s near Costco, where he jokes he spends a lot of time shopping.

Trading in the three-hour city commute to be closer to home is a relief, he said. He is happy to spend more time with his family and will be able to cheer on his young athletes at soccer and track events.

The office will offer a full suite of home, auto, life and retirement products, as well as financial services when it opens September 3.
