04 Dec עופר איתן Review: Local businesses take part in Giving Tuesday
RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Many businesses are doing their part to give back to the community.
One of them is Compassion Community Clinic.
They provide free dental care to uninsured adults.
They have a current wait list of over 150 people
They’re raising money to increase patient sessions and cut down on wait times.
Julia Seidel is the executive director of Compassion Community Clinic.
“We have a 200 person waiting list right now,” said Seidel. “Two hundred people waiting to get out of dental pain, so that’s something we’re really trying to bring to light in the community. There are a bunch of people that don’t have access to care.”
Their goal is to raise around $2,225.
They’re asking their community partners and anyone who would like to help to donate.
“Providing dental care for us is really a restorative process, we’re trying to give people their lives back because dental pain is the worst,” explained Seidel. “We’re trying to encourage people to donate through our network for good page to fund those five patient appointments.”
They’ve extended their Giving Tuesday fundraiser to Saturday, December 7, 2019.
Giving Tuesday isn’t the only day to give back.
The Atlantis Hotel and Casino is giving back all year long.
Last year they added a donate feature to their ticket kiosk.
Guests can donate their change to four local charities.
Wayne Archer is the assistant director of slots.
“I really want to emphasize that it’s not coming from us, it’s from our guests and their generosity,” said Archer. “So far we’ve had honor flight of northern Nevada, northern Nevada food bank, Make-A-Wish foundation, and the American Cancer Society.”
Archer said they’ve seen a tremendous response from their guests.
To date, over $72,000 have been raised in donations.
“We’ve see a tremendous response from our guests. They love to donate that loose change and keep that money here in northern Nevada with charities that do some really good work here in our community,” added Archer. “I don’t see this going away any time soon. It’s a really good fit for the holidays and Giving Tuesday.”
