UNIVERSITAS AIRLANGGA NEWS – Universitas Airlangga continues to give contributions in the academic society through various scientific forums. It can be seen from the involvement of academicians in local and international level conferences in order to increase their competence and provide a platform for them to conduct research development.
Dr. Sindy Cornelia Nelwan, drg., Sp.KGA (K), a lecturer of Department of Pediatric Dentistry (IKGA) Faculty of Dental Medicine (FKG) Universitas Airlangga had the opportunity to attend IADR-APR 2019: 4th Meeting of the International Association for Dental Research Asia Pacific Region 2019 November 25-30, 2019.
In the event held at Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Center, Dr. Sindy was not alone. She went to Australia, with four of his colleagues at FKG UNAIR, Prof. Dr. Rr. Asti Meizarini, M.S, from Department of Dentistry Materials, and Prof. Thalca Haid, drg., Ph.D., Sp.Ort (K), Prof. Dr. Ida Bagus Narmada, drg, Sp.Ort (K), and Dr. I Gusti Aju Wahju Ardani, drg., M. Kes., Sp.Ort (K) from the Orthodontics Department.
“I presented my research entitled Shifting Immune Response and Cytokine Profiles after Porphyromonas gingivalis Lipopolysacaride Exposure. Broadly speaking, this study showed a shift in immune response that I have studied since 2016, “said Dr. Sindy via a messaging app.
In addition to presenting research, the five lecturers also attended sessions and symposiums on research results from different countries and several fields of science. According to Dr. Sindy, from the event, they were able to gain insight as well as input from other academics related to their respective research, regarding topics, findings, examination methods, and other aspects.
“Later, I want to apply the results of this study to patients in the clinic. So it can contribute clinically to allergic patients so that it can reduce pain by eliminating germs in the oral cavity that are thought to be a trigger for allergies, “explained Dr. Sindy (*)
