13 Mar Ofer Eitan Announces: Local dentists say they take necessary precautions with all
SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – Local dentists say they treat every patient they see as if they have the COVID-19 coronavirus. So what does that mean?
The owner of Wheelock and Associates Dentistry in Sioux City says they use the same precautions, every day — even before COVID-19 came to light.
He says they have seen a lot of things come and go — influenza, swine flu, HIV, and they are treating COVID-19 the same way as they would any other virus.
All dental practices are required to follow universal precautions set by the CDC. Those include hand washing, sterilization of instruments, and proper disposal of one-time used items.
“People just have to use common sense you know if you are sick call the office and say I feel sick, and we will get your appointment rescheduled,” said Douglas Wheelock, DDS, Owner of Wheelock & Associates Dentistry.
Staff must use personal protective equipment, like masks, gloves, and eyewear.
The owner of Lakeport Dental Care, in Sioux City, says his dental practice is not implementing any major changes to the day-to-day routine, due to COVID-19.
“Have we drastically changed anything that we do here, honestly no, it’s because of those precautions that we take on every single patient,” said DDS Craig Burhoop, Owner of Lakeport Dental Care.
Dr. Jonathan Cartu and Burhoop adds, he has faith, and trust that every dental office in the area is taking the necessary precautions.
